Make quality, security and compliance work in practice.
At BSS Holland, quality and security are essential to delivering reliable solutions for defense, public safety and security customers. As Quality & Security Officer, you translate standards, legislation, contractual obligations and security requirements into practical controls and clear ways of working.
About BSS Holland
BSS Holland helps defense, public safety and security organizations improve situational awareness, decision making and operational effectiveness. We operate in the C5ISR domain, where technology, operations, security and international supply chains come together. As we grow from a start-up into a scale-up, robust and workable quality, security and compliance processes are increasingly important.
Your role
You are responsible for the day-to-day coordination and continuous improvement of quality, security and compliance. You maintain management-system documentation, support audits, monitor risks and actions, review compliance requirements and help colleagues apply them to projects, operations, suppliers and shipments.
You report to the Lead Operational Excellence and receive guidance and professional support from our experienced Senior QHSE Advisor. You work closely with the Customer Operations Team, Project Managers, Procurement, Finance and Management.
You also review customer contracts, supplier agreements, framework agreements, NDAs and other formal documents from a quality, security and compliance perspective. You identify obligations, record them, translate them into practical controls and monitor follow-up. You do not provide legal advice, negotiate commercial terms or take ownership of project delivery. Legal interpretation is escalated to Management or legal counsel; Procurement owns supplier selection and commercial agreements; Project Managers and the Customer Operations Team own delivery and customer commitments.
Due to the nature of our business, the security-sensitive environment and the need for close interaction with colleagues, visitors, auditors and physical shipments, this is primarily an on-site role. We expect you to work from our office in ‘t Harde four days per week. Occasional remote work is possible for the remaining day where the work permits.
What you will do
- Maintain and improve the Quality Management System and related policies, procedures, registers and records.
- Coordinate internal audits and support external audits, certification activities and customer assessments.
- Track findings, risks, incidents, corrective actions and continuous-improvement measures.
- Support information-security controls, security awareness and compliance monitoring.
- Monitor relevant changes in laws, regulations, standards and customer requirements and assess their operational impact.
- Review contracts and formal agreements for quality, security, privacy, export-control, audit, certification, reporting and delivery-compliance obligations.
- Maintain a clear register of compliance-related contractual obligations and coordinate evidence and follow-up with the responsible teams.
- Support bid and contract reviews while escalating legal interpretation, liability, intellectual-property and commercial matters to the appropriate owner.
- Support export control, sanctions, customs and shipment compliance for domestic and international deliveries.
- Support supplier qualification and compliance together with Procurement, without taking over commercial supplier management.
- Work with Project Managers and the Customer Operations Team to embed requirements in delivery plans, acceptance evidence and customer reporting.
- Prepare quality, security and compliance information for management reviews and help improve business processes.
What makes you successful here
- You can read standards, contracts and regulatory texts and turn relevant requirements into practical actions.
- You work accurately, maintain reliable evidence and follow actions through to completion.
- You recognize the boundary between compliance coordination, legal advice, procurement decisions and project ownership.
- You communicate clearly with colleagues, customers, suppliers, auditors and external advisers.
- You identify risks and inconsistencies without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
- You work independently, ask for specialist support when needed and handle sensitive information carefully.
Essential requirements
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in quality, security, compliance, QHSE, governance, risk, trade compliance or a comparable field.
- HBO or WO working and thinking level.
- Demonstrable affinity with laws, regulations, standards, contractual obligations and compliance frameworks.
- Experience with documented processes, management systems, audits or compliance evidence.
- Ability to review contracts and formal business documents for compliance-related requirements.
- Strong organizational, administrative and analytical skills.
- Professional command of Dutch and English.
- NATO citizenship and willingness to undergo screening, including a VOG and, where required, a VGB.
- Ability and willingness to work on-site in ‘t Harde four days per week and occasionally visit customers, suppliers or partners.
Useful, but not a checklist
Experience with ISO 9001, ISO 27001, NIS2, GDPR/AVG, internal auditing, information security, export control, sanctions, customs, supply-chain compliance or defense and government environments is valuable. Relevant audit, quality, security or compliance qualifications are welcome but not mandatory. We do not expect deep expertise in every area; sound judgement, attention to detail and the willingness to learn matter most.
What we offer
- A broad role covering quality, security, contract compliance and regulated shipments.
- Mentoring and specialist support from an experienced Senior QHSE Advisor.
- Direct collaboration with Operational Excellence, Customer Operations, Project Management, Procurement and leadership.
- Opportunities for professional training, certification and growth into a senior specialist role.
- An entrepreneurial culture with short decision lines, responsibility and room to improve how we work.
- A company laptop and mobile phone, plus mileage reimbursement for business travel.
